Getting Started: File Eraser

Getting Started: File Eraser

  1. Install or launch File Eraser
    1. If not already installed, deploy Blancco File Eraser and activate with a valid license.
    2. Open the application.
  2. Select files or folders to erase
    1. Use the interface to browse to desired files/folders.
    2. Alternatively, drag & drop the files/folders directly into the File Eraser interface.
    3. Blancco File Eraser also shows items in the Recycle Bin, which you can wipe from there.
  3. Choose erasure options
    1. Pick the erasure standard or method (e.g. single pass, multi-pass) based on organizational policy.
    2. Optionally, include system files, temporary files, cookies, or free disk space (to clean residual data in unallocated areas).
  4. Execute erase
    1. Click the Erase button to begin secure deletion.
    2. The process will overwrite the data so that recovery is not possible.
  5. Review and obtain report
    1. After completion, a Data Erasure Report is generated.
    2. The report is digitally signed and acts as proof of successful erasure (accepted for audit/compliance).
    3. Save or export the report (PDF, XML, etc.), and store it in your document repository.
  6. Automation & advanced usage
    1. On servers or enterprise environments, the File Eraser CLI (command line interface) allows scripting and scheduled runs.
    2. You can integrate with Active Directory / GPO (Group Policy) to run erasures (e.g. clear Recycle Bin on logoff).
    3. For network drives or SAN, the tool can operate on file structures visible to the host machine.
